A play by French playwright Beaumarchais. The first of the Figaro trilogy. Also known as La précaution inutile, it is a four-act comedy. It premiered in Paris in 1775. It contains a lot of political satire on class inequality and the tyranny of the privileged. It is set in Seville, Spain in the 18th century. The story is about a nobleman, Count Almaviva, who falls in love with a wealthy and beautiful girl named Rosine, and how, despite the interference of Bartolo, the doctor who is Rosine's guardian, they are able to successfully marry thanks to the wisdom and tact of Figaro, the barber and self-proclaimed town jack-of-all-trades.
