…Fibers made from cellulose acetate (secondary cellulose acetate, also simply called acetate) and cellulose triacetate (triacetate) are both called acetate fibers. Acetate was discovered in 1869 and was used as a coating for airplane wings during World War I. After the war, this use disappeared, and it was developed in England for use as artificial silk thread. In 1921, acetate fibers were first marketed under the trademark Celanese. It has a luster similar to silk, a high degree of elongation that is comparable to that of wool, and is characterized by its resistance to wrinkling. …
