Bon religion

Japanese:
Bon religion

A religion practiced in Tibet before the introduction of Buddhism. Today's Bon religion was assimilated into Buddhism after the second half of the 9th century, and is heavily influenced by the doctrines of the ancient sects. Originally, it was the religion of the Mu tribe based in the Shangshung region of western Tibet, and aimed to bring good fortune and eliminate disasters by worshiping the god of life, La. This is called rdol bon (rough Bon). After the Mu tribe intermarried with the Phyva' (Tong) tribe that later ruled Tibet, it mixed with the Shen religion, which holds after-death festivals, and Khyar Bon (miscellaneous Bon) was born, founded by Shenrab mibo (an excellent Shen adult). After death, goats, yaks, horses, etc. were said to guide and accompany the deceased across the seven valleys, and by sacrificing them, they hoped to reach the land of their eternal ancestors. After coming into contact with Buddhism and the collapse of the ancient kingdom in the mid-9th century, they rapidly adopted its doctrines, but showed signs of being in conflict with Buddhism, and they adopted the theory of Iranian origins, performed the Sajo prayer, and created the Bsgyur Bon sect. The sect is still active today.
