Kamosu Shrine

Japanese:
Kamosu Shrine

Located in Ooba-cho, Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture. Also called Ooba Omiya. The deities enshrined are Izanami-no-Okami and Izanagi-no-Okami. The "kamosu" in the name of the shrine is a corrupted form of "kamimasu" (the gods sit). In ancient times, this area was the base of the Izumo Kuni no Miyatsuko (Izumo Kuni no Miyatsuko), and the shrine was enshrined in the residence of the local governor. Even after the Kuni no Miyatsuko family moved to Kitsuki (Taisha-cho, Izumo City), it was enshrined in the old location and became an independent shrine, but the date of its founding is unclear. Former prefectural shrine. The main hall is gabled and designated as a national treasure as the oldest remaining structure in the Taisha-zukuri style. The main halls of the subordinate shrines, Kifune and Inari, are two-bay, nagare-zukuri, and are designated as important national cultural properties. Annual festival on October 18th.
