Inshi Jakyou - Inshi Jakyou

Japanese: 淫祠邪教 - いんしじゃきょう

A folk belief or religion that is considered by the state or rulers to have an anti-establishment tendency. Inshi is also called inshi, which is a similar term to heresy and the left path. In China, during the Qin and Han dynasties, the state organized folk rituals and established a system of rituals with the rite of worshiping heaven at its apex. This is called a ritual. The rituals in the Book of Rites already referred to the worship of things that should not be worshiped as inshi, but after the rituals were established, anything that was not included in the state rituals came to be considered inshi.

国家権力ないし支配者によって，反体制的な傾向を持つとみなされた民間信仰，宗教のこと。淫祠はまた，淫祀ともいい，異端，左道と類似した言い方である。中国では，秦･漢時代において国家によって民間の祭祀が整理され，祭天の儀礼を頂点とする祭祀の典礼が整備された。これを祀典という。すでに《礼記（らいき）》曲礼では，祭るべきではないものを祭ることを淫祀と呼んでいるが，祀典が整備されてからは，国家の祀典に入っていないものを淫祀とみなすようになった。
