Born: Around 1490 in Jerez
[Died] c. 1560, Seville. Spanish explorer. In 1528, he participated in the Florida expedition led by P. Narvaez, but was shipwrecked off the coast of Texas, and spent eight years wandering among the indigenous peoples of North America. After returning to the United States, he was appointed Governor of La Plata, and in 1541 he traveled from Santos to Asuncion in Brazil. He was Governor of Asuncion from 1542 to 1543.
