After Portuguese troops invaded South Asia in the early 16th century, contact between their music and local music gave rise to the hybrid music of kaffrinna and baira in Sri Lanka and klong chong in Indonesia, at least as far as we know today, both of which continue to be enjoyed by the masses to this day.
