A mountain on the border between Yazu District, Tottori Prefecture and Yabu City, Hyogo Prefecture. The second highest mountain in the Chugoku region. It is 1,510 meters above sea level. It is also called Mt. Suganosen, and the surrounding mountain range including Mt. Akakura is sometimes called Mt. Hyonose. Its original form is thought to have been a bell-shaped volcano that erupted in the early Quaternary Period, breaking through the Sangun metamorphic rocks and andesite from the end of the Tertiary Period. The crater-shaped depression and the highland marsh plant community of Kosenuma are designated natural monuments by Hyogo Prefecture. There are beech forests over 1,000 meters above sea level, a community of Japanese spicebush, and a wind-swept shrub forest of kyarabok trees on the summit, and it is known that golden eagles, Asiatic black bears, and dormice live there. There are legends of divine spirits centered around Koshikiiwa, and the old site of the Zao Gongen shrine is located here. The foothills are covered in 4-5m of deep snow, and the frost phenomenon can be seen. There is a ski resort. Tsukuyone was once a woodworker's village, and old folk customs remain. This is the main part of Hyonosen-Ushiroyama-Nagisan Quasi-National Park. [Minoru Iwanaga] [Reference item] |View from the west side of Wakasa Town.
