A former town in Kounu District, northeastern Hiroshima Prefecture. Most of the area is in the hilly mountainous region of the Kibi Plateau. The town cultivates rice, konjac, and shiitake mushrooms, and produces cedar, cypress, and chestnuts. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Shobara City along with the towns of Saijo, Tojo, Kuchiwa, Takano, and Hiwa in Hiba District. 70.61 km2 . 1,902 people (2003).
