An edible mushroom of the Basidiomycete family, Agaricales order, Agaricaceae. Although it has the word Matsutake in its name, it is not related to Matsutake, but is a mushroom of the same genus and closely related to the so-called mushroom. A Japanese person living in Brazil brought back this edible wild mushroom, and it has been sold commercially for several years. At first, it was mainly used for food, but later, research on it as a promising anticancer drug progressed, and now it is cultivated in some areas by private citizens as a health food and folk remedy for cancer, and is harvested while still young. The ones sold on the market are 4 to 5 cm tall, have a bell-shaped cap, a pale purple-brown surface, and are covered with fine scales. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
