Year of death: 1st February 9th (1065.3.18) Year of birth: Chotoku 1 (995) A nobleman in the mid-Heian period. Second rank. Son of Michinaga and Akiko, daughter of the Minister of the Left, Minamoto Takaakira. Fifth son. At the age of 19, he became the head of the Chamberlain for Emperor Sanjo, and in 1017 he was promoted to provisional Chunagon, and in 1021 he was promoted to provisional Dainagon. He remained in this position for nearly half a century, perhaps because he was not on good terms with his brother-in-law, Yorimichi. In 1045, when Emperor Go-Reizei ascended to the throne, he made an effort to have Prince Takahito (later Emperor Go-Sanjo) made Crown Prince, and when this was realized, he became Togu no Daibu. Emperor Go-Sanjo adopted his daughter, Shigeko (whose real father was Fujiwara no Kinnari), and the first son born to them, Prince Sadahito, was awarded the posthumous title of First rank and Grand Minister of State immediately after he ascended to the throne in 1072 and became Emperor Shirakawa. <References> Fusao Kono, Studies on the Political History of the Late Heian Period (Oboriya Hisashi) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
