…The body has black stripes or spots on a yellowish-brown background, and a prominent black and white band across the underside of the neck. The genus Viverra includes the African civet V. civetta (sub-Saharan Africa), the Indian civet V. zibetha (from Nepal to southern China and Malaya), the Malayan civet V. tangalunga (Malaya, Sumatra, Borneo, and the Philippines), and the lesser civet V. indica (distributed from India and Sri Lanka to southern China, from Taiwan to Sumatra. Those introduced to Java, Bali, Madagascar, etc. have become feral.
