Nanrim Mountain Range

A mountain range that runs south-southeast from the eastern part of the northwestern region of North Korea. Its main peak is Nanrimsan (2,014m), followed by Sobaeksan (2,184m), Gadokuryeong (1,479m), and Masikryeong (788m). The geology is made up of the Nanrim Group and Archean intrusive rocks and Mesozoic intrusive rocks, the Dancheonite. From the Miocene epoch of the Tertiary period of the Cenozoic era, an asymmetrical vault-like uplift has progressed, causing the mountain to rise several hundred meters. The gently sloping peneplain has been dissected and turned into an eroded mountain range, but the peneplain of the past remains on the mountaintop, which was less affected by the dissection.

北朝鮮の西北地方東部から南南東方向へ走っている山脈。主峰狼林山（2014メートル）をはじめ小白山（2184メートル）、牙得嶺(がとくれい)（1479メートル）、馬息(ばそく)嶺（788メートル）がそびえている。地質は、狼林層群と、始生代貫入岩類と中生代貫入岩類の端川岩からなっている。新生代第三紀中新世から非対称的な穹窿(きゅうりゅう)状の隆起作用が進み、数百メートル隆起した。緩慢な準平原は開析作用を受け、侵食山地になっているが、その影響が少なかった山頂部には過去の準平原が残っている。
