A perennial legume cultivated for animal feed. It is a giant variant of white clover and is sometimes treated as a single cultivar group (Ladino type) of white clover. The leaves and flowers are similar in shape to those of ordinary white clover, but are two to four times larger. The seeds are about the same size. The number of inflorescences is relatively small. Its name comes from the town of Lodi in northern Italy, where it was cultivated. It attracted attention at the end of the 19th century and spread to temperate regions around the world. It grows quickly and is resistant to mowing, making it ideal for green feed, but because it contains a lot of water, it is best mixed with grasses or other grasses to use it as hay or silage.
