This refers to a huge collection of over 100,000 Japanese books purchased or donated in several occasions from 1912 until his death by Tokuyoshi Kano (1865-1942), former president of the First Higher School and president of the Faculty of Letters at Kyoto Imperial University, when the Faculty of Humanities was established at Tohoku Imperial University. Many of the books are early modern manuscripts, but they cover a wide range of fields and are extremely valuable. All of the books have been made into microfilms.
