This is a trust that allocates the assets of individuals or corporations, such as money, securities, and real estate, to public projects such as welfare and education. Traditionally, such projects were centered around incorporated foundations, and so they were underdeveloped in Japan compared to the United States and the United Kingdom, but since the first one was established in 1977, they have gradually become more widespread. The purpose of charitable trusts accounts for 60% of all trusts, and other main purposes include welfare for the disabled and elderly, international exchange, and healthy development of young people, but recently "town development charitable trusts" that aim to use these trusts for independent town development through the ingenuity and creativity of residents, conservation of the local natural environment, and promotion of local culture are also becoming more widespread.
