A county in the southeastern part of Sichuan Province, China. Population: 830,000 (1994). Borders Guizhou Province. The name Hejiang comes from the fact that the county town is located at the confluence of Chishui and the Yangtze River (Chishui). It was a collection and distribution point for water transport from Guizhou that used Chishui. During the Han dynasty, Fu County was established here, and in the 5th century it was called Anle County, but in the 6th century, during the Northern Zhou dynasty, it became part of Luzhou and was renamed Hejiang County. During the following Sui dynasty, it belonged to Luchuan County, but prospered as a county town of Luzhou until it was changed to Yongning Road in 1914, when the road was abolished. The area is known for its lychees and citrus fruits. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
