Year of death: 19 January 1672 (17 February 1672) Year of birth: March 17, 1610 (May 10, 1610) A trader from the early modern period. His father was Kadoya Shichirojiro (Tadaei) and his mother was the second son of a daughter of the Kamata family. His real surname was Matsumoto and his given name was Eikichi. He was the grandson of Kadoya Shichirojiro Hidemochi of Ise, who earned the trust of Tokugawa Ieyasu. He was involved in trade with Kochi in Annam (Indochina Peninsula) but in 1631 he moved to Feifo in central Annam and played an active role as a leader of the Japanese town and cooperated with the red seal ship trade. His wife was the daughter of the Nguyen family, a member of the family of the Annam king. In 1639, Japanese ships and Japanese people were strictly prohibited from traveling overseas, and Japanese people from overseas were strictly prohibited from returning home, so he remained in Feifo and seems to have engaged in trade with Japan on Annam ships. Shichirobei had siblings and relatives in Nagasaki, Sakai, and Matsusaka, and kept in contact with them. Shichirobei sent several letters to these relatives during the period of national isolation, and the originals remain, and he sent them news and daily necessities, and made appropriate donations to Ise Shrine and other shrines and temples. It is said that 29 Japanese people lived in Feifo during the Enpo era (1673-81). He built Matsumoto Temple in Feifo. After his death, they were buried at Matsumoto Temple and Matsusaka Raigoji Temple on the same site. <References> Nanki Tokugawa History, Volume 7; Kadoya Related Documents (owned by Jingu Chokokan Museum, Ise City); Kuroita Katsumi, "Report on the Survey of Historical Materials Related to Japan in the South Seas" ("Kuroita Katsumi's Writings"); Kawashima Genjiro, "Shuinsen Trade History"; Tsuji Zennosuke, "Abridged Overseas Transportation History"; Iwao Seiichi, "Study of South Seas Japanese Towns"; "Annanki" (edited by Tanaka Hisao, "National Spiritual Culture", Vol. 8, No. 7) (Yasunao Nakata) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
