…After studying civil engineering and law, and working as a patent attorney for eight years, he founded the Curtis Motor Company, which produced electric motors and electric fans. In 1896, he developed the Curtis turbine, a high-efficiency impulse turbine that had a fixed blade with a row of movable blades, which reduced the steam speed in stages and made the steam pressure passing through the rotating blades constant.
