Katsura Bunchin
1948- A Rakugo performer from the late Showa to Heisei eras.
Born on December 10, 1948. In 1969, he became a disciple of Katsura Bunshi 5. In 1974, he formed "The Panda" with Getsutei Hachimune, Katsura Kinshi, and Hayashiya Kosen 4, and gained popularity. He was the host of the news variety show "Wake Up!" for 14 years. He performs both new and classic rakugo. He won the Grand Prize at the Kamigata Comedy Awards in 1983, the Encouragement Award at the Japan Broadcasting Entertainment Awards in 1984, the Kao Master Award in 1985, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Art Encouragement Award in 2009, and the Purple Ribbon Medal in 2010. He is from Hyogo Prefecture. He graduated from Osaka Sangyo University. His real name is Nishida Tsutomu.

昭和23年12月10日生まれ。昭和44年5代桂文枝に入門。49年月亭八方,桂きん枝,4代林家小染と「ザ・パンダ」を組み,人気を得た。報道ワイドショー「ウェークアップ!」の司会を14年にわたってつとめる。落語は新作,古典ともに語る。58年上方お笑い大賞で大賞,59年日本放送演芸大賞奨励賞,60年花王名人大賞,平成21年芸術選奨文部科学大臣賞を受賞し,22年紫綬褒章。兵庫県出身。大阪産業大卒。本名は西田勤(つとむ)。
