It is a small striated muscle, 40-60mm long and about 10mm wide, consisting of four rectus muscles, the lateral rectus (also called the lateral rectus), medial rectus (also called the medial rectus), superior rectus, and inferior rectus, and two oblique muscles, the inferior oblique and superior oblique. These muscles are innervated by three nerves: the abducens nerve for the lateral rectus, the oculomotor nerve for the medial rectus to inferior oblique, and the trochlear nerve for the superior oblique.
