Incarceration

Japanese:
Incarceration
A small fishing boat found on the west coast of Kyushu, mainly in the Amakusa Islands. The shape is not necessarily uniform, but generally the bow is long and narrow, curved slightly upwards, and sometimes the hull is also narrow, making it prone to rocking but easy to go fast. Most were made of five planks glued together. They were known for their speed, and legend has it that they were so fast that they could race against dogs and beat them to their deaths, hence the name. With the spread of mechanized boats, they are rarely seen today. [Ishizuka Takatoshi]
