Monthly salary system

A type of hourly wage, which is a form of wage payment, paid on a monthly basis. In this case, wages are considered as compensation for labor provided during the normal working hours of that month, so overtime work beyond the regular working hours is paid at a premium. In the case of a monthly salary system, monthly wages are stable, so it is excellent in terms of providing a living security function, and is a common demand of labor unions. However, from the company's perspective, it has drawbacks such as reduced work efficiency, so it is usually operated with an additional incentive pay system and bonus system for individual performance. A system in which the full amount is paid regardless of lateness or absence is called a "full monthly salary system," and a system in which the fixed monthly wage is reduced depending on absences, etc. is called a "daily and monthly salary system."

賃金の支払形態の一つである時間賃金の一種で、月単位で支払う方式。この場合、賃金はその月の通常労働時間内の労働提供に対する反対給付とみなされるから、所定労働時間を超える時間外労働に対しては割増賃金が支払われる。月給制の場合、月ごとの給与が安定するため、生活保障の機能という点では優れており、労働組合の一般的要求となっている。しかし、企業の側からすれば作業能率低下などの欠陥があるため、通例、個人業績に対する奨励加給制度、賞与制度などが付加されて運用されている。遅刻、欠勤にかかわらず全額支給するものを「完全月給制」とよび、決められた月の賃金から欠勤などに応じて減額する場合は「日給月給制」とよばれる。
