Kogin (small cloth)

Japanese: 小衣(小巾) - こぎん
Kogin (small cloth)
It is short workwear made of linen or cotton, with sleeves like a juban and no collar. The collar is made of the same fabric or a separate navy blue or black cotton. It has been used since ancient times. In Aomori Prefecture, sashikogin (also called kogin embroidery), which is sashiko stitched on linen, is known as "Tsugaru kogin." In Akita Prefecture, it is called "kogin" or "kongi," and in the past it referred to work clothes made of navy blue linen. In Niigata Prefecture, it is called "katakoginu," and in Gifu Prefecture, it is called "kogino." In Nara Prefecture, there is a top half-coat for going to the mountains made of wisteria cloth called "fujikogino," which was used until the Taisho era.
