…Gassan is the most famous mountain in the area, and was originally a god in itself. In ancient times, it was highly revered by the state, and in 806 (Daido 1), it was bestowed with two divine seals, and in 864 (Jogan 6), it was made a Junior Third Rank. It was also enshrined together with Omonoimi Shrine as the Gassan Omonoimi Two Shrines in Akumi County, and in 876, it was made a Senior Third Rank. During the Gangyo Rebellion, two more divine seals were awarded to it, just like Omonoimi Shrine. …
