Zen Ikaruga - Ikaruga in Kashiwa

...The fact that the Zen clan served in cooking and providing food for the Emperor's offerings is known from the examples of Zen Areshi during the Richu period, Zen Nagano during the Yuryaku period, and Zen Oamaro during the Ankan period, but after the establishment of the Ritsuryo system, the Takahashi clan, which descended from the Zen clan, was appointed as Naizen Hossen (chief of the Naizen Office) alongside the Azumi clan, based on the Zen clan's achievements in serving the Emperor's offerings for many years. Among the members of the Zen clan who were active in military and diplomatic affairs were Zen Ikaruga, who is said to have defeated the Goguryeo army as a commander of the Mimana Nihonfu during the reign of Emperor Yuryaku, Zen Hasubi, who was famous for slaying a tiger when he was sent to Baekje during the reign of Emperor Kinmei, and Zen Katabuko, who served as a host for the Goguryeo envoys who were cast ashore in Etsu Province (Hokuriku), and his daughter Hokikimi no Iratsume, who was famous as the wife of Prince Shotoku. Other names that remain in history include Zen Otomo, who served as the head of Kazariuma, which welcomed the Mimana envoys during the reign of Emperor Suiko, Zen Momoi, the governor of the eastern provinces during the Taika Reforms, Zen Hazumi, the ambassador to Goguryeo during the reign of Emperor Saimei, and Zen Maro, a meritorious retainer in the Jinshin War.

Japanese:
