Liangjiang (Liangjiang)

Liangjiang (Liangjiang)
A historically large geographical area in China. In the Ming Dynasty, there was no fixed system for administrative jurisdictions larger than a province (officially called Chengxuanbu Zhengshi), but in the Qing Dynasty, a governor was appointed as a higher position with jurisdiction over two or three provinces than one. Liangjiang, like Huguang and Liangguang, was also an area where a governor was appointed, and it was called Jiangnan Province, which was the Ming's Southern Zhili Province, and Jiangxi Province together. Later, after Jiangnan Province was divided into Jiangsu and Anhui, it was called three provinces. Liangjiang includes the most economically important area in China, and from the end of the Qing Dynasty it became the front line of contact with foreign countries, and the Governor of Liangjiang handled everything from the salt administration of the two Huai Provinces to trade affairs with foreign countries, and was an important position on a par with the Governor of Zhili, and was held by Li Hongzhang and Zeng Guofan in succession.
