…　太鼓にはこのほか，革を直接摩擦する奏法があり，日本にも古くは《和名類聚抄》に揩鼓（かいこ）の名が見られるが，現在でもヌビアでは風の音を表現する場合に素手で革を軽く摩擦する。南部アフリカのモシュピアネmoshpianeと称する太鼓は，老女がひそかに奏するものといわれるが，桶のような胴に羊の革が張られ，その上をトウモロコシの茎の束で摩擦する。この太鼓は女子の成人式にも奏されるといわれ，楽器としてよりも祭礼の具としての意義が大きいと考えられる。…
