A stage term used in Noh and Kabuki. On a Noh stage, it is a curtain hung at the boundary between the hashigashigaki and Kagami no Ma, and is also called the omakku. It is made of five colors of arabesque donsu, white, blue, red, yellow, and black, arranged vertically, and when performers enter or exit, two koken (guardians) use two poles attached to either end of the bottom of the curtain to lift it towards Kagami no Ma. Kabuki agemaku is a variation of this curtain, and is found at the end of the runway, and sometimes on the left and right side of the stage. The crest of the theater or performance company is dyed in white on a navy blue background, and it opens and closes from side to side.
