An air current with a downward vertical component. It occurs in areas of high pressure or pressure ridges, and often develops on the leeward slopes of mountains and mountain ranges that block the prevailing winds. A downdraft is a type of downdraft. A strong downdraft can be an obstacle to aviation and is called an air pocket. At the foot of a mountain, a cold air current flows down the slope at night. Clouds dissipate in the downdraft area.

下向きの鉛直成分をもつ気流。高気圧や気圧の尾根の域内で起こるほか，卓越風をさえぎる山や山脈の風下斜面によく発達する。おろしは下降気流の一種。強い下降気流は航空の障害となり，エアポケットと呼ばれる。山麓部では夜間に斜面を下降する冷気流が生じる。下降気流の領域では雲は消散する。
