Rocky Mountain spotted fever

Japanese: ロッキー山紅斑熱

It is also simply called Rocky Mountain fever. It is an infectious disease caused by the rickettsia Rickettsia rickettsi and transmitted by the bite of ticks ( Dermacentor genus) that live in forests. It is known that HT Ricketts discovered the rickettsia from this disease in 1909, and it was named after the Rocky Mountain region where it was first reported, but it is widely distributed in both North and South America. It does not exist in Japan. Most cases occur from spring to summer. The incubation period is 3 to 12 days, and symptoms include fever, headache, chills, muscle pain, nausea, and vomiting.

単にロッキー山熱ともいう。リケッチアのRickettsia rickettsiによって起こり，森林中に生息するマダニ類(Dermacentor属)の刺咬により伝播される感染症。1909年に，H.T.リケッツが，この病気からリケッチアを発見したことで知られ，最初にロッキー山地から報告されたのでこの名があるが，南北両アメリカに広く分布している。日本には存在しない。春から夏にかけて発生が多い。潜伏期は3～12日で，頭痛，悪寒戦慄（せんりつ），筋肉痛，悪心，嘔吐とともに発熱する。
