Flower stalk - Kakei

Japanese: 花茎 - かけい
Flower stalk - Kakei

A stem that bears one or more flowers without ordinary leaves and that grows underground or near the surface of the ground, such as the stalk of a cyclamen, the stalk of a daffodil, or the axis of an inflorescence of a purple moss. It is also called a basal peduncle. Ordinary leaves of plants with flower stems may grow in bundles from underground organs with short internodes, such as bulbs or corms, may grow horizontally from shortened stems (short stems with extremely shortened internodes) near the surface of the ground and spread out in a rosette shape, or may grow from a transverse stem, such as a rhizome or stolon.
