Uchinada Test Range

Japanese: 内灘試射場 - うちなだししゃじょう

During the Korean War, the US military in Japan tested the performance of shells for special procurement products at the sand dunes in Uchinada Town, Kahoku County, Ishikawa Prefecture (then Uchinada Village). On September 20, 1952, the government offered Ishikawa Prefecture permission to use the Uchinada Sand Dunes for four months. The village assembly general meeting on September 21, and the Ishikawa Prefectural Assembly on October 25, unanimously resolved to oppose the proposal, but the government persuaded them by providing conditions such as the transfer of national land and the provision of rehabilitation funds, and test firings began on March 18, 1953. The sounds of the test firings reached neighboring towns and villages, and there was strong opposition from the fishing, education and public morals sectors, but on June 2, the government decided to continue using the dunes, and test firings resumed on the 15th.

朝鮮戦争のさなか，在日米軍が特需製品の砲弾の性能テストをした石川県河北郡内灘町(当時は内灘村)の砂丘地。1952年9月20日，政府は石川県に内灘砂丘の4ヵ月使用を申し入れた。村議会全員協議会は9月21日，石川県議会は10月25日，満場一致で反対を決議したが，政府は国有地払下げ，更生資金支給等の条件で説得，53年3月18日試射がはじまった。試射音は近隣町村に及び，漁業，教育，風紀上等から反対が根強かったが，政府は6月2日，継続使用を決定，15日に試射が再開された。
