Fujimoto (a climbing plant) of the Apocynaceae family (APG classification: Apocynaceae). Approximately 100 species are distributed in tropical America. The well-known M. sanderi (Hemsl.) Woodson is native to Brazil, and produces funnel-shaped flowers 6-7 cm in diameter, pale pink to deep pink, from spring to autumn. Although it is a climbing plant, it is pinched off and used as a potted plant. In gardening stores, it is called Dipladenia , its former genus name. Amabilis is an interspecific hybrid, larger and more vine-like, and the cultivar Rose Giant is trained as a lantern. It has large flowers, over 10 cm in diameter, and blooms well in summer. Both species are propagated by cuttings. [Takabayashi Masatoshi June 21, 2021] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
