〘noun〙① In the Edo period, it refers to a prostitute. A woman who engaged in prostitution other than the courtesans employed in officially licensed brothels such as Edo Shin- Yoshiwara , and the fixed number of women allowed to serve at roadside inns. Commonly known as nighthawks, nuns, korobi geisha, souka, pinsho , chaya-onna, etc. In the Imperial Sadashiki, hidden prostitutes were delivered to Shin-Yoshiwara and made to serve a two-year contract. Hidden and beaten. ※Kinryo Ko - Goshu, Vol. 1, Vol. 7, July 22, 1789 (Kansei 1) "From now on, hidden prostitutes will not be allowed at all."② In the Edo period, it refers to prostitution. Forcing unlicensed women to engage in prostitution, or prostitution in places that were not officially recognized. ※Kansei Korei Koshu (Thoughts on the Prohibition) - Volume 3, 21, Kansei 13 (1801) "There is a prostitute hiding in the village of Yuyado in Joshu. She should be sent to Ezo."

〘名〙① 江戸時代、売春婦をいう。江戸新吉原など公許の遊郭に抱えられた遊女、および街道の旅籠屋(はたごや)に認められていた一定数の飯盛女(めしもりおんな)以外で、売春を行なった女。俗に夜鷹、比丘尼(びくに)、ころび芸者、惣嫁(そうか)、ぴんしょ、茶屋女などともいう。御定書では、隠売女は新吉原へ交付され、二年の年季を勤めさせた。隠し遊女。売女。かくしばいた。※禁令考‐後集・第一・巻七・寛政元年(1789)七月二二日「自今隠売女一切差置申間敷候」② 江戸時代、売春のこと。公許を受けていない女に売春をさせたり、公認されていない場所で売春すること。※禁令考‐後集・第三・巻二一・寛政一三年(1801)「上州湯宿村に而隠売女いたし候女とも蝦夷地江可差遣哉」
