An economics magazine presided over by Taguchi Ukichi. Modeled after the British magazine The Economist, it was first published on January 29, 1879 (Meiji 12), and became a weekly magazine in July 1881. It ceased publication with issue 2138 in September 1923 (Taisho 12) following the Great Kanto Earthquake. It commented on economic and political issues from the standpoint of liberal economics, and also published articles on the significance of economics and research methods, contributing to the spread and development of economics. In particular, the debates against protectionism in the Tokai Keizai Shinpo in the 1870s were extremely important.
