Kii Continued Topography - Kii Continued Topography

This is a geography book of the Kii Domain at the end of the Edo period. It consists of 97 volumes in the main text, 17 volumes on ancient documents and shrines, 60 volumes on Mount Koya, 21 volumes on the general division, and a sacred area. In 1806 (Bunka 3), under the orders of the Edo shogunate, the Kii Domain appointed Confucian scholar Niida Koko as chief editor and began compiling the book. After a temporary hiatus, Niida wrote the preface in 1839 (Tenpo 10). Following an overview of each district, it lists the old town names, village names, and total number of fields, and then for each manor, it provides information on the villages of the time, including the village tax rate, number of households, history, and old families.

幕末の紀伊藩の地誌。本編97巻、付録は古文書と神社が17巻、高野山(こうやさん)60巻、総分方21巻、聖方からなる。1806年（文化3）に幕府の命を受け、紀伊藩は儒者仁井田好古(にいだこうこ)を編纂(へんさん)主任に任命して編纂を始め、一時中断後1839年（天保10）に仁井田が序文を書いている。各郡の総論に続いて、古郷名、村名、田畑総数などをあげ、ついで各荘(しょう)名ごとに当時のすべての村々の村高、戸数、沿革、旧家などに至るまで編述している。
