A perennial plant of the Polygalaceae family (APG classification: Polygalaceae). It has thick roots and upright stems that are 20-35 cm tall and often unbranched. The leaves are thin and resemble persimmon leaves. From May to June, about 10 yellow flowers, each about 2 cm across, appear at the top of the stem. The two lateral sepals are petal-like. Three petals are fused together, forming a cluster at the tip. It grows in somewhat dry, shady areas, and is distributed from the southern Chubu region to the Kinki region.
