This limestone cave is located in Yasuie, Iwaizumi-cho, Shimohei-gun, northeastern Iwate Prefecture. It has a total length of over 23.7 km and is a national natural monument. It developed in the Jurassic Yasuie limestone, with the main cave being about 2,300 m long and the cave being complex and labyrinthine. Along the course of the limestone layer, it slopes at 50-60 degrees to the west or south, and you can see the groundwater dissolving the limestone to form stalactites and stalagmites extending into a single stone pillar. It is estimated that the cave is geologically over 200 million years old, and has evolved in an ever-changing form, including stalactites, stalagmites, stone pillars, flowstones, and curtains (limestone curtains), and limbstones can also be seen in several places. It is a cave center that can be compared to Akiyoshidai (Yamaguchi Prefecture) in the south and Yasuka Cave in the north.
