A small depression in the seabed that is circular, elliptical, or crescent-shaped. They are often found near straits with strong tidal currents, and are formed when the tidal currents erode the seabed or prevent the deposition of sand and mud. They may be on either side of the narrowest part of a strait, be elongated along the strait, or be crescent-shaped at the tip of an island. There are many sea cauldrons in the straits and straits of the Seto Inland Sea, and the reason why elephant fossils are found here in large numbers is because the tidal currents erode the fossil layer and the accumulation of gravel.
