A general term for Thai ceramics in Japan. It is said to be derived from the name of Swankhalok (or Sawankhalok) in central Thailand, where it is the main production area. In fact, the kilns were located near Sri Satchanalai city, 60 km north of Suankhalok city, and 145 kiln sites have been confirmed across several villages, forming a large kiln complex. It is highly likely that the kilns were first opened in the latter half of the 14th century, and they began their production activities under the Sukhothai Kingdom, influenced by the ceramic industry and porcelain of the Yuan Dynasty in China, along with the Sukhothai kilns.
