A city in the southern part of the Sayama Hills, bordering Saitama Prefecture and north of Tokyo. It was incorporated as a city in 1970. It borders Tokorozawa City, Saitama Prefecture to the north. Sayama tea is a specialty of the city, and metal machinery manufacturing is also carried out. Since the opening of the Seibu Haijima Line in the late 1950s, the area has seen rapid residential development. Lake Tama is located in the northern part of the city. Area: 13.42 km2 . 東京都北部，埼玉県に接し狭山丘陵南部にある市。1970年市制。北は埼玉県所沢市に接する。狭山茶を特産，金属機械工業も行われている。昭和30年代後半に西武拝島線が通じて以降，住宅地化が著しい。市域北部に多摩湖がある。13.42km2。８万3068人（2010）。
