Abducens nerve

Japanese: 外転神経 - がいてんしんけい（英語表記）abducens nerve

The sixth cranial nerve. It originates from a nerve nucleus located slightly anterior to the floor of the fourth ventricle, enters the orbit through the superior orbital fissure, and controls the lateral rectus muscle, which abducts the eyeball. Therefore, paralysis of this nerve causes paralysis of the lateral rectus muscle, resulting in esotropia. Abducens nerve palsy occurs when a tumor, bleeding, inflammation, etc. occurs somewhere along the long path, causing direct pressure, or when intracranial pressure is increased by a tumor, etc.

6番目の脳神経。第四脳室底のやや前方にある神経核から出て，上眼窩裂から眼窩内に入り，眼球を外転させる外直筋を支配する。したがって，この神経が麻痺すると，外直筋の麻痺を引起し，内斜視が現れる。外転神経麻痺は，長い走行距離のどこかに腫瘍，出血，炎症などが生じ，直接圧迫などの作用を受けた場合と，腫瘍などで頭蓋内圧が亢進した場合に起る。
