A port city in the Norrland region in northern Sweden. Population 71,952 (2001). It is located at the mouth of the Lure River, deep in the Gulf of Bothnia. Most of the iron ore produced in the northern region is shipped from this port in the summer. There are steel, automobile, and machinery industries. It has existed as a fishing port in the current old town (Gammelstad) since the Middle Ages, but was forced to relocate to the river mouth due to land uplift in 1648. Even now, the land is rising at a rate of 1 cm per year. As the cultural center of the northern region, it is fully equipped with schools and libraries, and the museum is known for its collection of Lapp folklore.

スウェーデン北部、ノールランド地方の港湾都市。人口7万1952（2001）。ボスニア湾の奥、ルーレ川の河口に位置する。北部地方に産する鉄鉱石の大部分は夏季に当地の港から積み出される。製鉄、自動車工業、機械工業がある。中世より現在の旧市街（ガンメルスタード）の地に漁港として存在したが、1648年土地隆起に伴い河口に移転を余儀なくされた。現在も1年に1センチメートルの隆起をみる。北部地方の文化中心地として学校、図書館が完備しており、博物館はラップ民俗の収蔵品で知られる。
