An old town in Miyoshi County, on the western edge of Tokushima Prefecture. It occupies the mountainous area on the west bank of the Yoshino River and south of the Dozan River. It has long been a center of tobacco cultivation. It produces a lot of tea, chestnuts, ferns, and shiitake mushrooms. Forestry is also practiced. The Dosan Line runs through the town. In March 2006, it merged with the towns of Mino, Ikeda, Ikawa, Higashi-Iyayama, and Nishi-Iyayama in Miyoshi County to become a city. Area: 131.59 km2 . Population: 5,514 (2003).

Yamashiro [town] [Yamashiro]

An old town in Soraku County in the southern part of Kyoto Prefecture. It occupies the right bank of the middle reaches of the Kizu River, and the Nara Line runs through it. It is primarily an agricultural town, producing vegetables and other crops. It is a distribution center for Uji tea. It has been an open area since ancient times, and is home to the ruins of Koma-dera Temple (historic site) and Kaniman-ji Temple. In March 2007, Kamo Town and Kizu Town in Soraku County merged to form Kizugawa City. 24.53 km2 . Population 8,913 (2005).

京都府南部,相楽(そうらく)郡の旧町。木津川の中流右岸を占め,奈良線が通じる。農業を主とし,野菜などを産する。宇治茶の集散地。古くから開けた地で高麗(こま)寺跡(史跡),蟹満(かにまん)寺がある。2007年3月,相楽郡加茂町,木津町が合併し,木津川市となる。24.53km2。8913人(2005)。
