1810‐76 German poet and journalist. Pen name Adolf Brennglas. Born and died in Berlin. In his series of novels, such as his masterpiece Berlin, Inside and Out (1832-50), he depicted the daily lives of the lowest classes with a light-hearted style, and during the March Revolution, he fought head-on against the ruling power of Prussia, including the publication of the Free Press. He is known for works such as Neue Reineke Fox (1846) and The Funny People's Calendar (1846-67), and continued to write humorous works rooted in the lives of ordinary people even after the failure of the revolution.
