To distinguish it from other branch archaeology, work that is carried out underwater is sometimes called underwater archaeology. Advances in diving technology and drainage equipment have made it possible to carry out surveys using scientific methods, and it has only been in recent years that archaeology has been recognized as a branch of archaeology. …
