Ghost story play

While turning the world of Chushingura upside down and deconstructing it, it incorporates the popular tale of the vengeful spirit of Oiwa, the daughter of Tamiya who lived in Yotsuya Samoncho, the story of an adulterous couple nailed to the front and back of a door panel and thrown into the Kanda River, and the story of an eel fisherman digging up the bodies of a couple who committed double suicide after floating in the moat, but it also draws on Nanboku's own earlier works such as Iroeiriotogizoshi, Okuni Gozen Kesho no Sugatami, Nazo no Obichiyotsuto Tokubei, and Kesakakematsu Narita no Riken. It is a masterpiece of ghost story drama, but it is not a ghost story conceived simply in terms of the relationship between perpetrator (evil) and victim (good). Oiwa's face takes on a grotesque appearance and at the same time she transforms from victim to twisted perpetrator, eel fisherman ... …
