...A Confucian scholar in the late Edo period. A member of the Neo-Confucian school. His given name was Shigenobu or Shin, his pen name was Shijun, and his nickname was Yusuke. He was born in Koriyama, Asaka County, Mutsu, and his father was a priest at the Hachiman Shrine in the same area. He went to Edo and became a servant of Sato Issai, and then became a disciple of Hayashi Shosai. After opening a school in Edo, he became a professor at the Nihonmatsu Domain School at the end of the Tenpo era, and in 1850 (Kaei 3) became an instructor at the Shoheika Academy. His works include Gonsai Bunryaku, Gonsai Shiryaku, Zhu Xue Guanqi, Xunzi Brief, Historical Treatise, and Gonsai Kanwa.
