Coast Guard Officer

An official of the Japan Coast Guard. They handle affairs related to ensuring safety at sea, such as enforcing laws and regulations at sea, sea rescue, and preventing and suppressing crimes at sea. In order to carry out these duties, they can inspect and question ships, order the submission of documents, and take compulsory measures such as stopping ships, preventing departures, and restricting or prohibiting the disembarkation of crew and passengers. They can carry and use weapons, and as judicial police officials, they have the authority to investigate criminals in cases of crimes at sea.

海上保安庁の職員。法令の海上での励行、海難救助、海上犯罪の予防・鎮圧など海上の安全確保に関する事務を行う。この職務を行うため、船舶への立入検査や質問を行うことおよび書類の提出を命ずること、強制処分として、船舶の停止、出発の差し止め、乗組員・旅客の下船の制限・禁止の措置などを行うことができる。武器の携帯・使用ができ、海上における犯罪につき、司法警察職員として犯罪人の捜査などの権限をもつ。
